Today is the day Hear Me Roar hits the shelves!

This anthology, filled with stories of empowered women and dragons, has been on my desk for a very long time and I’m excited to see it making its way in the world.

I’ve done a lot of anthologies over the course of my career, and they all have similarities but each one of them has several things which make it unique and distinctive. I think Hear Me Roar may have more than most. Here are a couple of the things that make it stand out from my other anthologies:

  • It had the longest submission window of any anthology I’ve ever done — over a year!

  • I had the cover before anything else. Before I had a title or even a concept.
  • This anthology contains the youngest author I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

I wanted to put ‘I’m releasing it during a pandemic’ on that list, but unfortunately though that makes it different it doesn’t make it unique as I’ve had the, uh, pleasure of releasing a few books during this pandemic LOL

There are no damsels in distress here!

A city guard in a world where sunlight is the greatest currency must choose between what’s done and what’s right when she meets a woman from the other side of the wall who’s caring for a strange brood. A teen girl is inducted into a secret society that slays mythological creatures. A woman and her daughter compete in a race where dragons pull chariots. A very special librarian guards a very special hoard. These and other stories of dragons and empowered women (and empowered women dragons!) fill the pages of this anthology.

Featuring stories by Krista D. Ball, Kevin Cockle, M.L.D. Curelas, Aurora B. C. Donev, Jennifer R. Donohue, Candas Jane Dorsey, Megan Engelhardt, Joseph Halden, Blake Jessop, Gwen C. “That incredibly loud guttural sound is a dragon, the main focus of another interesting compilation from editor Rhonda Parrish. If you’ve read any of her previous collections, you already sense these beasts are not going to be your run-of-the-mill, knights-in-shining-armor types of dragons. Those tired creations have been left at the door. Only the odd, the quirky, the never thought of before are gathered here.”

“The best of it though is trusting how much effort and time Rhonda Parrish has dedicated to her readers, of her knowing what her readers would like and enjoy as she opens up our minds to new experiences and worlds, producing a powerful and irresistible effect…”
