Fuck Cancer

He Loves Me Not - Photograph by Rhonda ParrishMy mom has been diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. She is trying to stay positive and so am I but my success varies from moment to moment. Sometimes I do very well, but I can fall apart in the blink of an eye. That means my blogging, writing, emailing etc. may be sporadic and random for a little while. I’ll also be canceling my trip to the World Fantasy Convention. I know you’ll understand.

Kindness is one thing that seems to make me crumble right now, so if I take a very long time to reply to your comments, it’s a safe bet that’s why.

Also, while I am an atheist my mother is not. If you are someone who believes in prayer I’m sure she would very much like to be included in yours.

This is tough.

Fuck cancer.

  1. Rhonda and Family,

Our hearts, thoughts and good will go out to all of you right now. If there’s anything we can do from across the country, including just being there to talk, we hope you’ll get in touch.

    1. Thank you guys, I really appreciate the support. I had been looking forward to WFC but all things considered right now, I think canceling my trip is the best plan. I’ll go somewhere else some other time instead. When my heart and mind would be clearer.

  2. Oh, Rhonda, I am so very sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis. That’s just brutal. I know from experience what an emotional roller coaster ride cancer inflicts on a family, and how tough it can be to stay positive. I may not be a prayer, but I do believe in the healing power of positive energy, as flaky as that may sound, and I’ll be directing mine toward your mother, you, and the rest of your family.

  3. Sorry to hear about your mother’s illness. I lost my father to cancer and am a cancer survivor myself so I understand some of what you’re going through. My thoughts and prayers are with your mother and family.

    1. Thank you very much. I can only imagine what you, yourself have been through. People. We’re made of strong stuff, eh?

  4. Rhonda,

I agree. Cancer sucks rocks. My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer several years ago, and while he’s been fighting it, his quality of life is crap. My heart goes out to your mom.

    Cancer needs to die.

    1. Thank you Dawn. My heart goes out to you and your family too. It may be your dad’s fight but the battle effects you all and I totally feel for you.
